One of the oldest Christmas movies was playing on a marathon run all day yesterday. The Frank Capra classic, "It's a Wonderful Life" was on a continuous loop.
Although I've seen this movie before, I realized that I had never seen it from beginning to end, so I went for it. It was raining outside so we cozied up with some hot chocolate and cookies and indulged in a movie marathon.
I never really understood what the big deal was about this movie until yesterday. Maybe it was the year we had in social distancing or the fact that so many had to alter their normal plans, but yesterday I had nothing but time on my hands to enjoy this movie.
What struck me the most was, when you show up in life as a generous human, the impact that you have is enormous. However, when you are used to being the one that helps others, how hard it is to ask for help and support when you are facing some of life's challenges.
I couldn't help but notice that when George was stressed and overwhelmed, how he lashed out at those he loved the most. Instead of being honest about his fears and money troubles, he snapped at his wife, his kids, his kid's teacher and his friends. Sound familiar?
Why do we act out when we need help, support or a hand up? What is it about us humans that we love to help, but hate to ask for help and become grumpy when we need it?
It's something that I constantly see. You want to figure it out by yourself and go it alone, denying others the opportunity to show you the love and support that they have for you.
It's like refusing to ask for directions when you are lost and wasting precious time before you reach your destination. Why does our pride and ego love to keep us waiting for the results we so desperately want by refusing to seek help and support?
Why do we need to figure it out alone? Let 2021 be the year you let your ego take a back seat to the vision that you want for your life and get the help and support that will take you there.
As I let go of perfection, looking good and going it alone, I encourage you to do so as well. Have fun, be silly, and get the support that will help you get to your next level.
Life is a journey to be shared.... even if it's on Zoom (lol). I'm ready to help you with your 2021 game plan for your next level.
I hope you are enjoying the holiday season, whatever it means for you.
