Just a quick note as I sit here thinking about how just a short time ago, it was illegal in some states for my husband and I to be married.
June 12th is known as Loving Day. The day that the supreme court overturned unconstitutional bans on interracial marriage through Loving v Virginia in 1967.
I was only 7 years old at the time. My husband was just a baby. It's a potent reminder that there have been and still are many laws on the books that are just not right.
If you are a member of the LGBTQ community, it was an even shorter time frame for you to enjoy the right to love who you love legally.
You may not know the pain that these types of laws caused to people who fell in love and wanted to be together but couldn't, had to endure. I don't, only because the law was changed when I was still
playing with my Barbie dolls.
Just think about your life and the freedoms you enjoy without even thinking about it and take a moment to be grateful. Let that gratitude bring you joy.
