Hey {{ subscriber.first_name | capitalize() or "friend" }},
I'm still on my birthday trip so I'm just saying a quick hello. I also want to share something with you.
I've been looking forward to easing into my 60th birthday by planning a big trip to Italy. But thanks to COVID, that didn't happen. Nor did any other plans I wanted to make that took me out of the country.
So, the quest was on to create a fun, socially distanced birthday trip. And, since my favorite thing in the world to do, (well, one of my favorite things) is to go whale watching, my husband knew that would be a happy alternative.
We planned a trip to the Oregon Coast. The plan was to go out on the whale watching boat on Sunday, my birthday, and I was so excited. Dog sitter...check. Warm clothes...check. Glee and excitement...check. Trip canceled because of high swells....yup. Now what?
Spent my birthday driving around, killing time until dinner. That's okay, let's try again in a couple of days. Same scenario... trip canceled at the last minute.
Now, I must admit, with my hopes up high, I was disappointed. But we tried again today and success, the trip was on. I was still excited, but more subdued this time. Off we go on this much anticipated boat trip and barely a whale or 2 in sight. Sigh...
High expectations, high disappointment, is usually how this scene plays out. Yes, I wanted to start a small pity party in my head. Fortunately, I've learned how to interrupt those types of party planners and figure out a better response.
After, the anti climatic whale watching trip, complete with flies all over the boat, we decided to picnic along the shore, and much to our delight, we saw whales.
A really cute couple that gave us the delight of watching them frolic back and forth, feeding on whatever was in great supply near the rocks. It was magnificent and a nice, relaxing experience to enjoy together.
We happened to get a cool photo of the tail here...
