Hey ,
Have you, or someone you know ever said this? You may want to unsubscribe after reading this but I'm hoping you stick around.
If you are someone who recognizes the need for change in our justice system and in our society as a whole, regarding people of color, I have a few questions for you.
- Do you realize how offensive it is to say "all lives matter" in response to Black Lives Matter?
- Do you realize that "Black Lives Matter" does not imply that only Black Lives Matter?
- Do you realize that saying "I don't see color" is impossible and that people of color want to be seen?
- Do you realize that saying your privilege came from your hard work is not hearing the pain and frustration of people of color, but making it about you?
- Do you know that saying "I'm not a racist, all lives matter" is patronizing and disconnected and further confirms that our voices are not heard.
Listen, I'm sure your heart is in the right place and there's a lot you need to learn if you want to be an ally.
You have an opportunity to learn with compassion and understanding. I've created a Facebook group with the purpose of teaching allies about systemic racism and how you can help.
The Intimacy of Race Facebook group was created to explore how we communicate at home, in business and on the streets as an antiracist ally.
If you are ready to learn how you can be an ally, I'm ready to help you learn.
All the best,
