There was a time when the rug got pulled out from under me.
My husband and I were working together in real estate and we were making moves in our new venture. I was working as a dental hygienist during the day, so it felt like I was working all the time.
Even when I got home to my husband, I would work.
Then it happened. One day I discovered and he confessed that he was having an affair.
I was devastated.
Then I was faced with a choice. Either leave the relationship or fix it. Leaving is the more common response (and no judgement if you've made that choice) but I knew deep down that it wasn't the right choice for me or us.
I believe in personal responsibility to my core, and although I didn't blame myself for my husband's decisions, I was aware that I showed up in a way that helped create the breakdown between us.
All work and no play was no good for us.
Ultimately, it was this betrayal that became the catalyst to creating the relationship we both desired and deserved.
We did the hard work and discovered how our different relationship and communication "styles" contributed to our frustration and disappointment with each other. This led to a deeper, closer, compassionate connection.
Make no mistake - it was hard, really hard. But we BOTH committed to doing whatever it took to make this relationship successful. This brings me to the current day...

How you deal with them is what will make you into a high performer. Do you flee, or dig in your heels to do the hard work?
If you've fled in the past, that doesn't make you bad or wrong. Each moment is a new moment and you can choose to respond differently this time.
