,
Every year for the past 8 years, I’ve taken a 4–6 week trip to Germany, where my husband and I own an apartment. Ever since we’ve been together (over 20 years), I’ve dreamed of summering in Europe and
establishing a home base there, so that we could visit other European countries.
Since I’ve become an entrepreneur, this dream has become reality with
intentional action and strategies.
Why is this critical for my health, well-being, and success as a high-achiever?
It’s not a vacation in the traditional sense, it’s a reset.
A deep breath.
A conscious step away from the day-to-day demands of business and leadership.
As a
coach and entrepreneur, unplugging isn’t always easy. My clients, team, and community are deeply important to me. And, if I’m being honest, I struggle with guilt from being away so long, and how to stay connected while disconnecting (sounds impossible, right?)
But I’ve learned something powerful:
Creating space is a strategy.
In Germany, I slow down. I walk more. I
think less. I reconnect with my vision instead of reacting to my calendar. And every single time, I come back sharper, more grounded, and ready to lead at a higher level.
To be clear, I generally stop work entirely for about a week to 10 days, then there are 1-2 days a week that I dedicate in the evenings (because of the time difference) to work. The pace is different. It’s slower. It’s intentional sharing. It’s fulfillment for my clients. And, because it’s in the evenings, my slow lazy mornings are slower and lazier and I love it.
This year’s reset reminded me again:
-Growth doesn’t always happen in the hustle.
-Clarity often comes from stepping away, not pushing harder.
-Leadership requires intentional rest.
If you’re feeling stretched, scattered, or like you’re carrying too much, I want to challenge you to create space on purpose. Daily, weekly, monthly, yearly resets because your best ideas are waiting
in that pause.
When you are used to always being busy. When you have obligations and responsibilities. When you find it hard to slow down. When you are
fearful of what might happen if you do. That’s when you need to incorporate habits that allow you to consistently show up as your best self. That’s what intentional resets will help you do.
