Once everyone started talking about this Netflix movie, I had to see it. Especially after my
daughter, who never cries, told me she cried. What I loved were the performances and the fact that law enforcement didn’t entirely consist of white, male dominance. There were very strong female performances. I also loved that not every person of color was portrayed as poor or as criminals. There was a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. Some of the flashbacks confused me but came together in the end.
What I didn’t like was how generally mean people were. Compassion and empathy for fellow humans had to be earned and even then, it was hard fought. Which leads me to the state of the world we are living in today, it’s
heartbreaking how few people are demonstrating empathy and compassion for those who are suffering from the politics here in America. So much, “they deserve it” or “they shouldn’t have made those choices” are echoing through the witnessing of suffering. What’s wrong with us?
It is now streaming on Netflix.
