Dear ,
Today, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a man whose vision for equality, justice, and love continues to inspire us all. Dr. King's unwavering
commitment to peace and progress has shaped the world we live in today and serves as a constant reminder of the power of courage and unwavering leadership.
Dr. King was more than a dreamer—he was a doer. Through his leadership in the Civil Rights Movement, he showed us
how to lead with both strength and humility, facing hatred with love and injustice with hope. His ability to inspire action through nonviolent resistance, even in the face of immense adversity, is a powerful example of what it means to be a true leader. He taught us that real progress is made when we combine vision with action and courage with compassion.
On a personal note, Dr. King’s impact resonates deeply in my own family history. In March of 1968, Dr. King visited my hometown of Paterson, NJ. At that time, my father was a motorcycle police officer. Due to the rising threats against Dr. King, the white chief of police decided to assign Black officers to his protection detail. My father was chosen to guard Dr. King, not because of his skills
or experience, but because the chief didn’t want white officers to be placed in harm's way. Despite the unsettling circumstances, my father carried out his duty with pride and respect.
