I recently completed an ICF coaching training course where I got to learn about our cycles of self-sabotage. Boy did I recognize mine in this training. The work of the saboteurs is covered in this book and it’s eye-opening for anyone wanting to dive deeper into discovering the ways we self-sabotage.

Welp, I have to admit, I felt a bit sick on election day. And, if I’m being honest, I’ve been feeling sick ever since I heard that a Black woman would be running for president of the United States. Although I felt the energy shift to more positivity and less dread with her campaign, I know how the foundation of the United States would feel about her candidacy. The day after election day, I wrote a letter to women of color and posted it on LinkedIn. Here it is:

Martha ~ Netflix

This week, the Martha Stewart documentary popped up in my Netflix algorithm, so I got curious. She was a controversial figure back in the day. A successful woman that was criticized for having the attributes of a high-powered man. She was also a White Anglo-Saxon Protestant blonde woman living in Connecticut. Many people would love to witness her downfall, and they did. She was found guilty of some insider trading and was sent to jail for 5 months. I remember that time. Many people were experiencing Schadenfreude. I probably was, too. 

Having the opportunity to watch her story unfold in this documentary and hear her experience as well has opened me up to view from a different perspective. Regardless of whether you like the person or not, the lesson of resiliency and rebuilding is what I admire about Martha Stewart. Not many people have the ability to rise when so many are against you.
