Dear ,
I know you might be busy today but I wanted to pop in your inbox and share with you today. First, I want to share my gratitude for you and the fact that you are here, in my community, with a desire to learn and grow to an even better version of yourself.
As most American's are celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday today, I can't help but think of the Native People and what their experience has been over hundreds of years of the narrative of Thanksgiving.
In my continued search to learn 'real' history, not the history I learned in school, I came across this webinar for American educators, from the National Museum of the American Indian.
It showcases a letter depicting an eyewitness account from Edward Winslow, of what's now known as the first Thanksgiving. Did you know that this was a 3 day event and there was no Turkey involved at all?
Anyway, I found this webinar on YouTube fascinating and it has important details I never learned in school. But more importantly, it highlights the stereotypical images of Native people that is still portrayed today, even in our modern
society.
Check it out if you are curious to learn a more accurate and truthful history of Thanksgiving.
