What I'm Reading, Writing, and Watching in August

I have referenced Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich, for at least a decade. I finally completed the entire book. Yes, it took me a while and I have to admit, I wasn’t ready for the lessons in this book when I first started reading it several years ago. I couldn’t receive it then but boy does it land now. Again, the lesson of persistence and the definiteness of purpose rang loud and clear as a foundation for success.

This is a must-read for many reasons. Especially if you tend to give up or lack patience.

Patience, Persistence, and Purpose

While we are on the subject of patience and persistence, in my recent blog post, I wrote about my experience dealing with nearly debilitating back pain while on my birthday trip in Italy. The patience with others came more easily than the patience I had with myself while dealing with the myriad of challenges on this trip.

Often, we look at how we treat others and our reactions to certain situations. What I discovered was that as I’m working on being a better person for others, I’m also having more patience and compassion with myself. How you do one thing is how you do everything. You can read the blog post here.

King Richard

I’ve been here in Europe since mid-July, taking some time to rest, connect, and restore. On the flight to Germany, I had the opportunity to watch the movie, King Richard, starring Will Smith. It’s remarkable how this father, with very limited resources, and facing racial stereotypes and discrimination, had the power of vision, persistence, and the definiteness of purpose to build his two daughters, Venus and Serena Williams, into tennis champions.

This man never moved from his vision for his girls. AND, he had a CLEAR vision and purpose for them. It’s a great story of what it looks like to have such clarity of purpose, that nothing will move you away from it.
